Phillies vs. Padres

Game 1: Roy Halladay pitching for the first time since his perfect game. He got the first 2 outs of the 1st inning and then gave up a single to Adrien Gonzalez. There went the perfect game/no-hitter. He went 7 innings and gave up 2 earned runs. He pitched fabulously. He allowed 10 hits and walked 1. He stranded a shitload of baserunners and gave the Phils a chance to win. After falling behind 1-0 the offense or more specifically took back the lead in the 3rd inning. Roy Halladay got the 1st hit for the Phillies and Shane Victorino followed up with a 2-run homerun. The Padres tied the game in the 5th. The offense came right back in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead on a bases loaded walk. The score would stick into the 9th. Brad Lidge I suppose has officially regained closing duties. He was sensational. He threw 11 pitches (8 for strikes). He struck out 2 and had a really easy 1-2-3 inning. It was a nice win, but it'd be nice to see the Phillies score more than 3 runs. Phils 3-2

Game 2: Quick is not quite the word most people would use to describe Jamie Moyer. I blinked and this game was over. The offense finally broke out of that slump where they weren't scoring more than 3 runs. They scored 6! Spoiled is what that is. Chase Utley had an RBI single that tied the game and Ryan Howard gave the Phillies the lead with a 2-run double. Raul added a sac fly and Jayson Werth finished off the scoring with a generous 2-run homer. Anyway, the real story was Jamie. He had trouble in one inning: the second, when he allowed 2 runs. It took him only 2 hours and 2 minutes and 98 pitches to finish off the Padres with a complete game. He was masterful once again. In every start this year, he has pitched at least 6 innings; it's a far cry from his '09 season. Phils 6-2

Game 3: Joe Blanton has not been very good this year. Ugh, he allowed the Padres to score 3 in the 1st. The offense got 1 back in the bottom half of the 1st. Thanks to some shoddy defense from the Padres (botched DP, deflected liner that should have been caught) the Phillies scored 4 in the 2nd to take a 5-3 lead. Joe Blanton couldn't hold it as he gave up 1 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th. The score stuck into the 9th. Brad Lidge has an EASY 9th to keep the game tied at 5. The offense has a chance to win the game in the bottom half but could not get that elusive hit with a runner on 3rd and 2 outs. Danys Baez gave a up an RBI infield single in the 10th. The Phillies had a chance to tie and possibly win the game in their half but Placido Polanco made the 2nd out of the inning trying to go from 1st and 3rd on a Chase Utley single. Ryan Howard followed up with a single, but Jayson Werth swung at garbage and ended the game. Maxi-Padres 6-5

Game 4: Another wonderful pitching performance wasted. Cole Hamels had a no-hitter through 6, but gave up back-to-back homeruns in the 7th. He went 8 innings and only gave up those 2 runs. The offense was dreadful once again. They only scored in the 9th (by that time it was 3-0, thank you Danys Baez) on a Ryan Howard RBI double. With 2 outs, Jayson Werth struck out to end the game once again. Maxi-Padres 3-1

Golden Girls Quote of the Day:
Blanche: Can you believe it? After four long years, my baby girl is finally coming to see me. I'm so happy, I could cry.
Rose: But Blanche, you are crying!
Dorothy: Admit it, Rose, you worked for Allied Intelligence during World War II.
Rose: Huh?
Dorothy: Fine. Play it cagey.
