The Phillies bullpen took a hit after Kendrick left when long reliever Ryan Madson left the game with a strained shoulder. Antonio Alfonseca relieved Madson and threw a strike to Jason Bay to sit him down. Madson was placed on the 15-day disabled list following the game and Geoff Geary was called up from Triple-A Ottawa to take his spot. The right-hander said after the game that his shoulder had been sore the past couple days, but he thought he could pitch through it. After getting two strikes on Bay with two outs in the eighth, Madson said he felt a right shoulder muscle tear. The news came just two days following Brett Myers' activation from the disabled list, where he'd been since May 24 with the same affected muscle Madson now has. He'll stay in Philadelphia and have an MRI tomorrow. If the results come back with the same degree of severity Myers suffered, Madson's season is likely over.
