Phillies vs. Marlins

Game 1: Roy Halladay. Roy Halladay. Roy Halladay. Roy Halladay. Roy Halladay. I'm just really glad he's on our team. No rain could damper the mood of what was Halladay's first start in Citizen's Bank Park. It rained steadily throughout the game but Roy still pitched 8 innings of 2-run ball. The offense scored early and often: 3 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, and 3 more in the 7th. As it turns out, those extra runs were very much needed. Dave Herndon came in to pitch the 9th and gave up 4 ER on the strength of 3 infield hits, a soft single, and one hard hit double. Madson came into record the final two outs to earn his third save of the season. It just seems Herndon pitched into some bad luck. I am definitely not giving up on him yet. Fun Stat: Roy Halladay a career .102 hitter has one hit in each of his three starts this season (two were infield hits-he's got speed too!). Phils 8-6

Game 2: As they say, all good things must come to an end. In their previous three series the Phillies had won the first two games but with Jamie Moyer's 1st inning and Ricky Nolasco going the distance, it didn't look good for the Phillies. Despite giving up 5 runs in the 1st, Jamie pitched 5 additional scoreless innings. The bullpen was solid and the offense was silenced with the lone exception of a Jayson Werth solo homerun in the bottom of the 9th. Fishies 5-1 BONUS: Gold Gloves!

Game 3: The Phillies offense once again today didn't much. They really only had one opportunity to score and that was after a Jayson Werth infield single, followed by a Fransisco ground ruled double. Castro went on to strikeout, Chooch lined out, and Hamels grounded out. A REALLY bright side was Cole Hamels who pitched 8 innings, giving up 2 ER, striking out 8, and walking no one. He started the 9th inning but after giving up a hit to the leadoff hitter, Charlie pulled him in place of Madson who would give up a double to Uggla and charge another ER to Hamels' line. He really did look spectacular and it's a shame the offense couldn't give him any runs, but hopefully they learn to hit again when they return to play on Tuesday in Atlanta. Fishies 2-0

Actually, speaking of Madson, I am not feeling very comfortable with him as closer. He may be better than Lidge but I don't have the confidence when he closes. I would love for him to change my mind, but until then, GET BETTER BRAD LIDGE!

Golden Girls Quote of the Day:
Blanche: "Dorothy, wait up. Will you wait a minute? You just walk so fast."
Dorothy: "I am in a hurry."
Blanche: "It's not sexy. Well, it's not. A woman should take little delicate steps. As if to say, I may be slower than you, but maybe I'm worth waiting for."
